English theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking got it right when he said that behind every exceptional person there is an exceptional teacher. Windham Middle School’s Jason Lanoie is a great example of what Hawking was talking about.

It’s said that a great teacher is more than just someone who gives out answers to tests but is understanding of the needs and challenges of students and gives them the tools they need to succeed in life. Windham Middle School’s Mandy Lavallee can certainly be called one of those dedicated educators.

Lisa Anderson never forgot how instrumental that teachers were in her life and that from an early age, her mother thought her daughter should try and become an educator. Now more than three decades into her teaching career at Windham Middle School, Anderson strives to let her students know she believes in them and their potential in life.

Pamela Mallard believes we’re all here to contribute something unique and that deep within all of us lies a special gift. It’s a philosophy that holds significance for Mallard as she found her true calling in working with students and now serves as a seventh- and eighth-grade science and math teacher at Windham Middle School.

Schools are one of the safest places our children can be, and there is a lot of work that goes into making sure that is true. One very significant part of keeping our school safe is the role of a School Resource Officer, now handled by Windham Police Officer Devyn Rogers at Windham Middle School.

A milestone is approaching as the community prepares to break ground on a project that will shape the future of education. At 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Windham Raymond Middle School will be held at 61 Windham Center Road in Windham.

The final day of classes at Windham Middle School next month will be bittersweet as Wendy Day-Maynard will retire following a 38-year career as a teacher in Windham.
